First, all tiles were removed and the toes to roof timbers were lifted and replaced with new. This gained the lost height in the attic.
Then 'voliges' or cross timbers that sit beneath the slates were replaced as needed, treated for woodworm, then covered with a breathable and water repellent fabric. New velux windows to replace the old metal lights, and complete re-tiling and guttering in zinc finished the job.
Here our roofer is just finishing the last section before the ridge tiles are secured.

The pictures show the extent of rot and decay in all the old oak timber. Lintels were collapsing and one completely open side of the building held by a large old oak beam showing advanced stages of decay.
The old roof, losing tiles, with wet and rotting wood, with no gutter, and having all the appearances of collapse, was brought back to a good condition.
The main concern of our client was that the building would not collapse with another winter. It was a real risk! The pictures can only give a flavour of the work and the problems encountered,.
